Start with documentation
Photograph visible damage safely from the ground, note the date and time of the storm, save emergency mitigation receipts, and review your policy deductible and coverage form.
Contractor and adjuster roles differ
The contractor evaluates construction scope and price. The adjuster evaluates coverage under the policy. Neither role guarantees the other’s decision.
Do not confuse an estimate with coverage
An insurer may approve less than a contractor believes is needed, or exclude aging and maintenance issues. Ask for written explanations and compare line items rather than totals alone.
Next step: Use this guide to create a consistent set of questions before requesting or comparing contractor bids.
